We have noted the foregoing counties as examples of the rest, which space does not allow us to deal with.

Heblaw y dosraniadau sirawl hyn, ceir un arall a elwir cwrcydawl (squatting,) yr hwn a ddarboda gyflead y gwastad-diroedd porfaol—nodwn ychydig o’r pigion.

Besides these county divisions, there is another called squatting, which accounts for the grazing plains—we shall note a few of the important ones.

Six districts of equal size are designated, which we cannot as much as name here.

DINASOEDD.

Nis goddefa ein terfynau sylwi o honom, ond ar un yn unig, a hono ydyw

CITIES.

Our limits will not permit us to note these, excepting one only, and that is

SYDNEY.

“Ei gwedd arnodwyd âg addurniadau,
Ië llawn addurn ei holl anneddau,
Ac o fewn y trigfanau,—ffrwyth y tir
Er budd mynwesir heb ddim yn eisiau.”

Gwilym Padarn

Dyma brif-ddinas y drefedigaeth, ac efallai ryw ddydd metropolis, Ymerodraeth, Brenhiniaeth, neu Weriniaeth Australia! Gorwedd megis y crybwyllasom eisioes, ar lan ddeheuol Port Jackson, yn ngwaelod un o aml gilfachau y porthladd ysblenydd hwnw. Y tir ar ba un y saif sydd anwastad a chreigiog. Y mae’r olygfa wrth ddynesu o’r môr yn nodedig o fawreddus. Gwna syllu ar furiau naddedig ei cheiau (quays,) pinaglau syth-feinion ei heglwysi, palasau gorwych ei hamgylchoedd, ei heolydd llydain, hardd, a glanwaith, a’r coedwigoedd o hwylbrenau a ymsythant oddiar wyneb glas-wyrdd di-donawg y Porthladd, sirioli mynwes hiraethlawn a therfysglyd, yr Ymfudwr,

“——am ei wlad fâd yn gofidio.”
Braidd na chred i’w lestr drwy ryw ddamwain ddieithriol lanio, mewn Porthladd Prydeinig drachefn. Y mae golwg gartrefol ar bob peth o’i amgylch. Y mae yr ystrydoedd, y siopau, y Porters, y Police, y “busses,” y man-gerbydau, ïe hyd yn oed y gwynebau a brysurent heibio, oll yn drwyadl Brydeinig. Mewn gwirionedd, “ail-argraffiad gyda gwelliant,” o un o ddinasoedd canol-raddol Prydain ydyw. Y tir amgylchynol sydd dywodlyd ac anwastad, ond cymmedrol gynnyrchiol. Pan ystyriom nad ydyw etto ond yn ngwendid ei babandod, nis gallwn lai na rhyfeddu wrth luosowgrwydd a gwychder ei heglwysi a’i hadeiladau cyhoeddus eraill. Heblaw Eglwys Sefydledig Lloegr, a’r un Babaidd, y mae yr oll o brif enwadau Prydeinig yn perchenogi addoldai rhagorol yn nhref Sydney. Ei sefydliadau addysgiadol a arddanghosir gan golegau ac ysgoldai, aml a gwerthfawr. Diammeu nad oes un dref yn Mhrydain, o faintioli cyfartal, a all ymffrostio mewn cynifer o sefydliadau daionus ac elusengar. Y mae ei masnach o bob natur yn helaeth anghyffredin, ac ar gynnyddiad beunyddiol. Mewn gair mae “Dinas Sydney,” yn ei hadeiladau, ei sefydliadau, a’i masnach, yn gwir deilyngu y sefyllfa bwysig a leinw, fel “prif-ddinas” un o drefedigaethau gwerthfawrocaf Prydain. Dygir y llywodraeth ddinasol yn mlaen gan Faer, Aldermen, a swyddogion cyffredinol bwrdeisdrefi Cymru a Lloegr.
SYDNEY.

“Her face adorned with shining stones,
And all her halls as well;
The fruit of the land, conserved in homes—
A place where want ne’er dwells.”

Gwilym Padarn

This is the capital of the colony, and perhaps some day the metropolis of the Empire, Kingdom, or Republic of Australia! As already remarked, it lies on the southern shore of Port Jackson, at the bottom of one of the many inlets of that splendid harbour. The land on which it stands is uneven and rocky. The view on approaching from the sea is most magnificent. Gazing on the hewn walls of its quays, the pointed spires of its churches, the grand mansions all about, the beautiful, broad, clean roads, and the forest of masts that stand up from the waveless blue-green surface of the Harbour, cheers the home-sick and troubled heart of the Emigrant,

“——grieving for his blessed land.”
He almost believes his vessel has by some strange accident landed in a British Harbour again. There is a familiar look to everything around him. The streets, the shops, the Porters, the Police, the “buses,” the light carriages, yes, even the faces hurrying by, all thoroughly British. In truth, it is a “reprint with corrections,” of one of the middle-ranking cities of Britain. The surrounding land is sandy and uneven, but comparatively productive. When we consider that it is still in the weakness of its infancy, we can only wonder at the number and splendour of its churches and its other public buildings. Besides the Established Church of England, and the Roman Catholic one, all the principal British denominations have excellent houses of worship in the town of Sydney. Its educational institutions are represented by colleges and school-houses, numerous and worthy. There is undoubtedly no town in Britain, of equal size, that can boast as many benevolent and charitable institutions. Its commerce of all kinds is uncommonly extensive, and growing daily. In a word the “City of Sydney,” in its buildings, its institutions, and its commerce, truly deserves the important position it fills, as “capital” of one of the most valuable of Britain’s colonies. The civic government is carried on by a Mayor, Aldermen, and the common municipal officials of Wales and England.

Cynnalia amrai Newyddiaduron dyddiol, wythnosol, a phymthegnosol.

It supports a number of daily, weekly, and fortnightly Newspapers.

Poblogaeth—58,000.

Population—58,000.
